WHY WINTER IS THE BEST TIME TO START A MOWING BUSINESS!

winter start Jun 27, 2020

OK, I know what you are thinking, don't you mean spring?

Spring is the best time to gain clients, but I would argue that it's not the best time to start a new business.

Quite obviously spring is going to be your busiest time. But if you are just starting a new business you might find yourself overrun and making costly mistakes.

Starting a new mowing and gardening business in winter allows you enough time to be prepared.

The initial set up of your business is going to take time and some things will hold you up. You don't want to be dealing with these problems when you should be flat out working.

You're going to have accounts to set up, ABN, GST, marketing, accountants, apps, equipment, logo's, fb, uniforms, insurances and heaps more to set up before you even touch the mower.

Winter, usually being the slower period in this line of work means you can afford to take the time to get set up the right way and learn the ropes a bit before going under pressure come spring-time.

Plus, any little hiccups along the way should be more welcomed now so you can have confidence they will be fine when it's time to perform.

There is still plenty of work to do during winter.

Warm season grasses slow down but the cool seasons pick up. You will have piles of leaves to clean up from autumn and rose pruning should keep you busy for a while.

It's also a great time to start preparing for spring. You can cut back overgrown trees and hedges to allow more light through onto the lawn.

Gutter cleaning is sort after this time of year too.

Once you start ticking along, getting used to your equipment, scheduling and how your business runs in general.

You should feel a lot more confident and prepared coming into spring, where you will be ready to fill your diary and your bank account.
